WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Music, dance, and art are being used to fight crime in New Hanover County.

Wilmington Central Rotary is holding an event called Wilmington's Got Talent, which is a hometown variety show competition, and they're looking for acts.  All proceeds from the event will go toward purchasing a drug dog for the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office canine unit.

The event is scheduled for November 18 at 7 p.m. at Thalian Hall.  It's designed to shine the spotlight on area singers, dancers, musicians, magicians and all acts in between. Organizers even welcome up-and-coming animal tricksters.

The top act, to be determined by a panel of judges, will receive an artist feature in The Beat Magazine.

“There are so many wonderfully-skilled people and undiscovered entertainers in this city,” said Jeannette Woodruff, Rotary Central Event Chair, in a news release. “This section of southeastern North Carolina in particular really sparkles with gifted individuals from across the talent spectrum. We’re very lucky to harness all of their good to overcome some of the negative.”
