WEATHER: Some showers possible

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)  - Some clouds and some shower chances will accompany some breezy conditions as a cold front moves through the area during the morning commute.  High temperatures today will only move up slightly from where we are now in the mid 60s.  The showers are not likely to produce much in the way of precipitation - but as we move into the middle of the day a few downpours are possible.

The cold front will move off shore, and the clouds with it as we move into the early evening with cooler temperatures throughout the night.  Friday will be stunning, with high pressure reasserting control and sunny skies taking over.  This will last through most of Saturday too, with highs in the low 70s.  Shower chances return late Saturday through Sunday.

WEATHER: Hello sunshine

A perfect spring day here in eastern North Carolina with high temperatures moving into the mid 70s by mid afternoon with boatloads of sunshine to boot.  Look for some breezes to pick up later in the day as a cold front starts to move into the western portion of the state after lunchtime.

That cold front bears down on the Wilmington Area during the overnight hours bringing a chance for showers through the early part of the day Thursday and dragging cooler weather in for Friday.

Another rain chance late Saturday and Sunday as a weak upper level disturbance moves overhead.

CFCC professor aims to make a splash for those with disabilities

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) -  It's not often that folks get to do what they love and help others at the same time, but a CFCC business professor is finding a way to just that one day at a time.

Ben Shaw loves to surf. He also loves to help those with disabilities to experience the joys that surfing allows.

He is currently days away from finishing a year long journey of surfing everyday for charity.

Shaw volunteers with Ocean Cure. The group helps anyone from Wounded Warriors to children battling ALS.

"I saw first and the healing powers of the ocean…to see a smile come on a kid's face for the first time in who knows how long is special," he said.

Shaw says not all days were good to surf, but he tries to catch at least three every time he goes out.

If you want to donate to his cause, you can visit his website at Bens365waves.wordpress.com.

WEATHER: Nice - but for how long

High pressure moves in finally bringing some much nicer weather today with daytime high temperatures running close to 70F this afternoon.

While we will start the day with some clouds, by this afternoon it will be mostly sunny and nice.  That high pressure moves directly overhead for Wednesday keeping conditions improving and warming quickly as we roll into the upper 70s on Wednesday near Wilmington.

Fact is some inland locations could push above the 80 degree mark as we will see temperatures push above average.

Thursday the chance for showers increases in association with an advancing cold front from the west.

Shower are by no means a given, but the middle levels of the atmosphere become more favorable for the development of showers and thunderstorms as this system skirts the area.  Slightly cooler than normal conditions are expected as we head into the weekend - with more shower chances for Sunday afternoon.
