Contract bids for widening Dow Rd. come in over budget | Business

PLEASURE ISLAND, NC (WECT) – Officials on Pleasure Island will go back to the drawing board in regards to widening Dow Road.

Last month, members of the Kure Beach Town Council met in an emergency meeting to request funding from the NCDOT to widen the road.

The widening project would have included adding five feet of pavement on each side of Dow Road and three turn lanes.

According to District Engineer Karen Russell, contractor bids for the project came back higher than expected, some as much as 19 percent over budget.

Russell said this happens often on smaller projects like this, especially when a quick turnaround is expected.
