Ocean Front Park already attracting events

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Less than two weeks after it’s official opening, the Ocean Front Park in Kure Beach is already attracting events.

Town council approved two new positions for the park, Recreation Coordinators. Nikki Keely works 35 hours a week to plan the events, which include farmers markets, concerts and public meetings. Her hours doubled in mid-March to prepare for the park’s grand opening on April 26.

Keely’s position is temporary set to end June 30, but a full-time job for marketing and coordination of the park and all town events is in the proposed 2013-2014 budget.

Bob Fitzsimons is the other additional hire for the park. He handles private events and educational programs, according to the town clerk. His is a year-round position with 17.5 hours a week.

Previously, Fitzsimons had been a volunteer with the Kure Beach Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

Both Recreation Coordinators were hired in January and earn $15 an hour.
