CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – Town leaders in Carolina Beach are hoping for a break from their landlord.
Town Manager Tim Owens said he will submit a comprehensive and completed plan for the land that Carolina Beach leases from Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point. The town spent approximately $200,000 on cleaning debris, consolidating equipment and adding a fence to the space.
The town’s public utilities department operates on the land, but it’s not allowed according to the original lease agreement from the 1960’s. Owens said he hopes it can stay with the help of a lease amendment.
"We believe we’ll have a positive outcome,” said Owens.
He added that the town does not have many options if Sunny Point denies the lease amendment.
