KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Fall is right around the corner, and now, it’s that time of year to begin cleaning up leftover trash that folks left behind from summer.
The N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher will once again host its Big Sweep Saturday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m. according to a news release.
There, volunteers will help pick up and dispose of trash and debris, which can pose serious threats to wildlife and aquatic environments.
To participate in the cleanup event, email NCAFFregistrar@ncaquariums.com to register, or call (910) 458-7468.
Participants are asked to bring their own reusable water bottles.
Just last year in New Hanover County, 537 volunteers cleaned up about 1,235 pounds of trash.
