NHC Health Dept. offering free prostate cancer screenings | Community Spirit

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The New Hanover County Health Department will be offering free prostate cancer screenings for men 40 years old and older, according to a news release from a county spokesperson.

The exams will be given at the health department, located at 2029 South 17th Street, on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Residency in New Hanover County is not required for the screenings, and those who are uninsured or underinsured are welcome.

Along with the prostate exams, a Prostate Specific Antigen blood test will be taken, as well as a referral for a follow-up with a doctor if necessary.

According to the release, prostate cancer is the most common type of non-skin cancer in the U.S., and it affects one out of six men.
