KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – The Island of Lights New Year’s Eve celebration is upon us and will be held in Kure Beach this year.
There was hope the festivities could be held at the new Ocean Front Park, but construction is not quite complete. Finishing touches on the pavilion, pervious paver installation, landscaping and paving of Atlantic Avenue have yet to be finished.
Regardless, the New Year’s Eve event is expected to be a fun time for all.
A giant beach ball will be dropped at midnight, accompanied by a fireworks show, according to the event's website.
There will also be a raffle, in which the winner will receive original artwork for the 2012 Christmas card and ornament.
Families can head to the pier around 9 p.m., where there will be a DJ, dancing and food available to buy.
The event is free to attend.
