FORT FISHER, NC (WECT) – Two boys digging a hole along the beach in Fort Fisher discovered more than just sand castles – they happened upon a nest of turtle eggs Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses say Park Ranger Dave LaPlante and Marine Patrol William Register were called to the site, where they moved the nest, which had more than 100 eggs in it, to higher ground to prevent the eggs being washed over and rotting.
Then, they put the nest under a protective cage.
The officials said that the eggs looked as though they had just been laid.
