NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County School administrators are trying to make sure teachers are not blatantly advocating for the Red for Ed Campaign using school resources.
Principals are actively reminding teachers about a decades-old policy that bans New Hanover County School employees from politicking while on the clock, or while using school resources.
Teachers are not allowed to use their school e-mail accounts or websites to promote the Red for Ed cause, launched in protest to recent state legislative changes. Many teachers are upset about the state ending teacher tenure, and eliminating salary increases for teachers with master's degrees.
There has also been a lot of discussion about what the teachers are wearing to school. Many teachers have been wearing red, and some have even worn printed t-shirts advertising the Red for Ed campaign to school.
