FORT FISHER, NC (WECT) - A loggerhead turtle is safe because of some friendly folks on the water.
Cody Ijji and his friend recently kayaked out to Zeke's Island. While hiking, they came across a man fishing in a large tide pool. The man had something on his line that he initially thought was a snapping turtle.
Cody says he recognized it as a loggerhead. He and the fisherman followed the line out into the pool and were able to catch the turtle.
They brought it back to the beach and removed the hook in its front right flipper. Then they picked the turtle up, walked it away from the tide pool, and released it into the bay where it swam away.
