CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - A water quality swimming alert has been issued for the vehicle access 600 yards north of Carolina Beach Pier at dune marker #6 in Carolina Beach, according to a news release.
Water in that area showed high levels of bacteria when tested on Monday, which caused the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources to issue the swimming alert Tuesday.
People swimming or playing in waters with high bacteria levels have an increased risk of developing gastrointestinal illness or skin infections, the news release stated.
