The MAKO Band wraps up the Summer Concert Series

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – After being rained out earlier this summer, The Mako Band will try to take the stage again this Friday for a free concert at Fort Fisher.

The beach boogie blues band will be playing at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area to finish out the Summer Concert Series.

Grab your blankets and chairs and head out to Fort Fisher for an evening of family fun. Food will be available for purchase, but you can also pack your own. Do NOT bring your own beverages or pets.

The Mako Band will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and play until about 8:30 p.m.

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Musical group The MAKO Band will perform Friday, Sept. 14 at Fort Fisher, according to www.PleasureIslandNC.org.

The performance will wrap up the Fort Fisher Summer Concert Series.

The beach boogie blues band will start playing at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Grab your chairs or blankets and head out for a night of free family fun.

Food is available for purchase or you can bring your own. Beverages, however, are not permitted. And please, leave your furry friends at home.

Gasp! Britt's Donut shifts to weekend-only hours

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – Your chance to enjoy a hot Britt’s Donut in Carolina Beach are starting to wind down for the season.

The donut shop will be open until 5:00 Labor Day and will close during the week.

They will re-open Friday evening at 4:00 and Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Britt’s will continue on weekend hours until they decided to close up shop until next year.

Generally the shop will close when people stop coming, so if you want to grab a Britt’s donut, go early.

The Nivens family has operated Britt's Donuts on the Boardwalk in Carolina Beach for more than 30 years.

Final free movie of summer to be shown at Carolina Beach

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce will show "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" on Sunday, Sept. 2 to finish the 2012 Free Movies at the Lake Series this summer.

The movie's showing is weather-dependent and free to the public. Popcorn, candy, soft drinks, cotton candy and other popular concessions will be available for purchase.

Volunteers needed to help clean beach

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Fall is right around the corner, and now, it’s that time of year to begin cleaning up leftover trash that folks left behind from summer.

The N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher will once again host its Big Sweep Saturday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m. according to a news release.

There, volunteers will help pick up and dispose of trash and debris, which can pose serious threats to wildlife and aquatic environments.

Vaccinations to be offered at Kure Beach Town Hall

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Two upcoming sessions will be held at Kure Beach Town Hall for those who want to get flu, pneumonia and Tdap vaccines, according to a news release.

The dates of the clinic are Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The health department will bill health insurance agencies, Medicaid and Medicare, and cash, checks and Visa or Mastercard will be accepted.
