CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – The SABLE helicopter helped to find an older man who had gotten lost at Carolina Beach State Park. The man called 911 and told dispatchers he was lost and had medical issues.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, SABLE was able to narrow his location down to a specific area using the telephone directions he told dispatchers. The chopper was able to land in a small clearing when he told dispatchers SABLE was close. A Kure Beach police officer was able to find the man under some trees.
Police said he was injured and dehydrated. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Tactical Flight Officer carried the man to the helicopter. He was then transferred to EMS for treatment.
