NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - County commissioners voted Monday night to accept a request to rezone an area of
land in the Seabreeze community in New Hanover County.
A petitioner wanted 2 of 5 commercial acres in the Seabreeze
community to be rezoned residential, so he can develop a residential community.
Seabreeze
Residents came to Monday night's meeting to show their opposition to the
proposal.
They
presented a petition to the commissioner against the rezoning request in their
neighborhood.
There
were some questions as to whether the board would accept this petition because
it was just submitted to the board Monday night and should have been submitted
at the first public hearing.
Commissioner
Jason Thompson said he doesn't think the board should accept the petition
because it's late. But commissioners still decided to accept the petition and
review it for signatures.
Commissioner
Jonathan Barfield made a motion to deny the request for rezoning. No
commissioners seconded his motion.
Commissioner
Rick Catlin made the motion to accept the request for rezone.
Commissioner
Brian Berger seconded it. The motion passed 4 to 1. Barfield was the only
one to vote against it.
