Water advisory lifted in Carolina Beach

Response workers struggle through neck high water to fix the break Monday night.

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Residents in Carolina Beach should no longer have to boil their water as a cautionary measure, according to town leaders.

The town had been under advisory Tuesday after a water main break on Dow Road. Recent tests show no coliform bacteria in the water.

Dow Road in Carolina Beach is open again after being blocked to traffic Monday night because of a water main break on Tarboro Avenue.

Traffic was blocked at the 400 block of North Dow Road because of flooding. Some places were high enough for workers to swim.

Crews on the scene said they were working on recirculating water pipes in the area, so everyone would have equal water pressure. When they cut a 12 inch water line, they also hit an unmarked water valve believed to be covered up by NCDOT.

Engineers on the scene said Carolina Beach crews are not at fault for the accident.

Carolina Beach crews opened fire hydrants on a number of streets to relieve the pressure for the water main break on Tarboro Avenue.

Some neighbors in the area said they had been without water since 5 p.m. Monday. They said crews have been in the area since that time.
