NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – More than a dozen cars were stranded on Martin Luther King Blvd Thursday morning, likely the result of a checkpoint in that area Wednesday night.
According to Sgt. Jerry Brewer with the sheriff's office, a total of 67 charges were cited Halloween and 16 people were arrested.
Law enforcement agencies from the NC State Ports Authority, Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Wrightsville Beach, Whiteville, and New Hanover, Brunswick and Columbus counties took part in the checkpoints.
Most people were cited for DWI or for a seatbelt violation.
