CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – Leaders in Carolina Beach met Friday morning for the second time since the mayor, town manager and councilman resigned earlier this week.
The meeting had been scheduled for months with the purpose to meet with engineers to discuss water quality among other issues.
Mayor pro-tem Steve Shuttleworth said it's important to move on and conduct business as usual.
The council is in the process of filling the two empty seats on the board and will be collecting applications from residents until November 30. The people chosen will serve until the term ends in November 2013.
Councilman Lonnie Lashley said Thursday he regrets his decision to resign and that he would come back to the board if allowed. Shuttleworth said Friday Lashley can apply for the position just like any other Carolina Beach resident.
The board concluded the three-hour meeting by going into closed session to discuss the process for hiring a new town manager and who would be good potential candidates.
