Kure Beach Town Council taking part in Thursday retreat

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Kure Beach Town Council is meeting Thursday as part of its retreat, according to the town’s website.

From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., town council members are discussing current and future goals of departments and committees, a mid-year financial review and current and future council goals.

The group is meeting in Building 122 in the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area.

Carolina Beach leaders to meet

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Town council members in Carolina Beach will meet, in a joint session, with the Carolina Beach Tourism and Marketing Committee Tuesday afternoon.

There, they will continue discussions about efforts to market the island, room occupancy tax funding, and related matters.

After that meeting, council members will meet to talk about the budget process and to finalize the legislative agenda.

McIntyre-Rouzer recount cost taxpayers $18,000

The recount of votes in the NC7 Congressional race cost taxpayers more than $18,000

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) –  The recount of votes in the District 7 Congressional race between Mike McIntyre and David Rouzer cost taxpayers at least $18,000, according to figures from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

The twelve-county recount on November 26-28 verified McIntyre's victory over Rouzer in the general election. McIntyre lost one vote in the process, winning a ninth term in Congress by 654 votes out of more than 336,000 cast in the race.

Elections officials put the recount cost at $18,096, with only Robeson County not reporting a total cost.

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT)  - 16 people have expressed interest in filling the vacant Carolina Beach council seats. Earlier this month, Mayor Ray Rothrock and Councilman Lonnie Lashley resigned after Town Manager Tim Owens resigned.

According to councilman Steve Shuttleworth, council members will appoint 2 of the following applicants to town council.

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – Just a few more days are left to try your chance at becoming a Carolina Beach Councilmember.

Leaders say a handful of people have applied for the vacant seats on council, and numerous people have also submitted their names for the town manager position.

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – If you don’t want to wait around in long lines to vote on Election Day, you can take advantage of One Stop Voting ahead of the crowd at Carolina Beach Town Hall.

There, you can vote from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from now until Nov. 3, according to the town's website.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners is looking for interested county residents to apply to be appointed to several boards and committees, according to a news release from a county spokesperson.

Citizens are encouraged to apply for spots in the following:

  • NHC Board of Health (Category: professional engineer)
