As thousands of tourists will be travelling to the beaches and spending money, restaurant owners in Carolina Beach are stocking up, hoping customers will walk through their doors.

Restaurant owner Debbie Whitley, of Frank's Pizza on the boardwalk, says she's already seeing more business than usual. In order to prepare, she bought twice as much food and supplies to make sure she and her staff are covered.

Whitley says she's been looking forward to this weekend for a long time, adding that this weekend, along with Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, are the best times for business.

"We've been lazy all winter," she said. "Nothing going on except for the polar plunge and the Low-Tide run. I hope everyone did well; we certainly did. But this is the official start of the tourist season."
