New Kure Beach tennis session scheduled

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – According to a spokesperson from the Town of Kure Beach, the next session of tennis lessons will begin May 7 and 8.

Those interested can click here to register.

The lessons are sponsored by Kure Beach Parks and Recreation, and they are being offered on a first-to-register, first-serve basis.

Kure Beach to offer yoga classes starting May 9

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Vinyasa Flow yoga classes will soon be offered at the Kure Beach Community Center, according to a spokesperson for the town.

The classes are part of a 10-week session, and they will be held from May 9 through July 25. They will take place each Wednesday night from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., excluding May 16 and July 4.

The cost for the entire session is $65 per person, and participants are asked to bring a yoga mat, towel and water bottle to every class.

Those interested also need to fill out a parks and recreation registration form, and will need to bring it along with the $65 due at the first class.

Checks can be made payable to the Town of Kure Beach.

Free physicals offered for prospective student athletes

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Students who plan to participate in athletics in New Hanover County will need a mandatory physical examination.

Free exams are being offered at the New Hanover County Health Department, located at 2029 South 17th Street, for prospective student athletes.

Exams will be held on Thursday, May 24 for boys and on Thursday, June 7 for girls, according to a post on the New Hanover County Schools website.

Here are the times and dates students should show up:

Boys, May 24 at 6 p.m.

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Kure Beach Parks & Recreation is offering Vinyasa Yoga Flow classes beginning in May.

The 10-week session will be held at the Kure Beach Community Center from May 9 through July 25, according to a news release from the Town of Kure Beach.

The session costs $65 per person and classes will take place every Wednesday from 7:15 until 8:15 p.m.

Rock Against Rape event scheduled at Capt’n Bills

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – In honor of New Hanover County Commissioners declaring April as Sexual Assault Activism Month, Coastal Horizon’s Rape Crisis Center will be hosting its 10th annual Rock Against Rape concert Saturday, April 21 at Capt’n Bills Backyard Grill, according to a release from the county.

At the event, there will be live music, prizes, volleyball, cornhole and more.

Capt’n Bills is located at 4240 Market Street, and the event is scheduled to be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
