CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Carolina Beach officials entertaining the idea of “entertaining” water.
Carolina Beach Boardwalk Revitalization and Ocean Park Commission are proposing constructing a splash pad or mist station. It would give kids a place to play, and adults a spot to cool off. The committee hopes this would attract visitors to the boardwalk area and keep them around.
A splash pad is an area where water shoots through holes in the ground. Some of the jets of water shoot straight up, others arch. The area where the water would shoot through the ground is covered in a soft durable rubber material.
The committee discussed several ideas: multiple smaller splash areas, one large play area, and an artistic display that would project images or movies on a "screen" created by a wall of mist.
There are of course safety concerns, and if the area would become a sand wash off area.
