'Click it or Ticket' campaign celebrates 20 years

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Monday, May 20th marks the 20th anniversary of North Carolina DOT “Click or Ticket” campaign.

According to the press release, North Carolina was the first state to launch this safety program in 1993.

The release also states, The Click it or Ticket campaign runs through Memorial Day weekend and ends on June 2nd.  During this time officers will cite driver’s state wide who do not buckle up.

Bridge work on River Road on hold until June

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - According to Amanda Glynn with North Carolina DOT, crews have postponed work on the bridge located on River Road in New Hanover County going over Lords Creek until June.

Work was scheduled for Monday, May, 13 through Friday, May, 17. D.O.T.Crews have to perform maintenance on the substructure of the bridge. 

According to Glynn, crews delayed construction to prevent traffic tie-ups during the school season. Anderson Elementary, Ashley High School, and Murray Middle school are all located around the area.

Glynn says the bridge is rescheduled to close sometime in June.

All lanes on the Snow's Cut Bridge to open on Friday

 CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Relief is on the way when it comes to traffic headaches on the Snow's Cut Bridge. 

According to Ben Hughes with the DOT bridge maintenance department,all lanes of the bridge will open up on Friday, May 17 for the rest of the summer. 

DOT crews have been working on the southbound lanes of the bridge since November.

South 2nd Street closed in Carolina Beach Monday

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – According to the Carolina Beach Police Department, South 2nd street will be closed from Spartanburg Ave. to Greenville Ave. on Monday, April 29.

This is part of the storm water project. When traveling in the work zone, be cautious and reduce your speed.

Work is expected to be completed Monday night.

Fayetteville Ave in Carolina Beach closed for the next week

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – According to Carolina Beach Police Department,  Fayetteville Ave at Dow Road will be closed to drivers for the rest of the week. Crews are laying pipe across the road. Crews have been working on this road off and on for the past couple of weeks. This closure will not affect traffic on Dow Road. Be sure to avoid this area.

The road is expected to re-open Wednesday, April, 24.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Lane Closures on I-40 and N.C. 133/ N.C.117 bridges

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - According to a press release from North Carolina DOT, Weather permitting, NC DOT crews will work on routine inspections on the I-40 and U.S. 117/N.C. 133 bridges over the Cape Fear River in New Hanover County on Monday, April 8 through Friday, April 12.

The inspections will require closures on the eastbound and westbound lanes on I-40 bridges and on the U.S. 177/N.C. 113 bridge between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day.

Drivers should plan for extra time crossing the bridges during that week and use caution in the area.
